Chairside X-Ray Bridge
Dentospire's chairside X-ray bridge files each RVG or OPG image from your existing sensor software into the right patient's record, for dental clinics that are tired of exporting, renaming and uploading every film by hand.
The problem in a real clinic
The sensor software has the image, the clinic software has the patient, and someone has to carry one to the other. Between patients that means export, rename, find the chart, upload. Sooner or later a film lands in the wrong patient's file, or stays on the imaging PC and never reaches the record.
How it works
- Run the bridge on the clinic PC that already has your sensor software. It acts as a DICOM node, which Vatech EzDent-i and Sirona Sidexis already know how to send to.
- A doctor or admin creates a key in Settings → Developer with the “File X-rays from the RVG / DICOM bridge (write-only)” scope and pastes it into the bridge's settings, with the chair's name as the device label.
- In the sensor software, add the bridge as a DICOM destination and press the connection test.
- Take the X-ray as you always do. If one patient is in progress on that chair and the name on the X-ray agrees, it files to that patient's visit; if nobody is in the chair, it files only when exactly one patient's name matches.
- Anything else waits on the Imaging page under “Waiting to be filed”, where someone files it to the suggested patient, chooses a patient, or dismisses it.
What you see on screen
- The new film on the open patient screen, labelled X-Ray · RVG, with the AI reading starting on its own under your login.
- A “Waiting to be filed” list on the Imaging page showing the name and date of birth the sensor sent and why the film was held.
- A search by name, phone or patient ID to place a held film on the right patient.
Safety and control
- It never guesses. A name that disagrees with the patient in the chair, no match, several matches or no name at all means the film is held for a person.
- The key can file X-rays and nothing else. No reply from Dentospire carries a patient's name or date of birth, so the key cannot be used to look patients up.
- Only a clinic doctor or admin can create the key, and only clinic staff can file or dismiss a held X-ray; visiting doctors cannot.
- Dismissing a held film marks it as dismissed; nothing is deleted. Filing happens once, even if the button is pressed twice.
- The AI reading of a bridged film runs under the logged-in dentist's own permission and allowance, not as a background job.
Good to know
- The X-ray bridge is included in the Pro and Enterprise plans.
- If your sensor software has no DICOM send, the bridge can instead watch a folder: export the image with its info file into that folder and it is filed the same way.
- Setting it up means installing a small program on the clinic PC and allowing it through the Windows firewall on your private network.
- It is set up for Vatech EzDent-i and Sirona Sidexis. Other sensor software that can send DICOM to a node may work, but has not been listed here.
- Filing by chair needs the chair's name in Dentospire to match the bridge's device label, and the appointment to be marked in progress.
- You keep your sensor and its software; the bridge sits behind them and does not change how the shot is taken.
Frequently asked questions
Which Dentospire plans include the X-ray bridge?
The Pro and Enterprise plans. Clinics on Free or Starter can still upload X-rays by hand from the patient's Imaging tab.
Does the Dentospire X-ray bridge work with my existing RVG sensor?
It works through your sensor's own software, not the sensor itself. Vatech EzDent-i and Sirona Sidexis can both send images to a DICOM node, and the bridge is that node. You keep taking X-rays exactly as you do today.
How does the bridge know which patient an X-ray belongs to?
It uses the name and date of birth your imaging software sends. If a patient is in progress on the chair named in the bridge's settings and the names agree, the film files there. Otherwise it files only when exactly one patient matches, and holds everything else for a person.
What happens to an X-ray the bridge cannot match to a patient?
It waits on the Imaging page under “Waiting to be filed”, with the name the sensor sent and the reason it was held. Someone at the clinic files it to the suggested patient, searches for the right one, or dismisses it.
Can the imaging key used by the X-ray bridge read my patient list?
No. The key's only scope is filing X-rays, and Dentospire's replies to it never include a patient's name or date of birth. Only a clinic doctor or admin can create the key in Settings.
