AI X-Ray Analysis

Dentospire's AI X-ray reading marks areas on an OPG or RVG radiograph for the dentist to review, tooth by tooth, so a dental clinic can check the findings and save them to the notes and chart in one step.

The problem in a real clinic

You read the film on the monitor, type what you saw into the notes, then mark the same teeth again on the chart. On a full evening one of those three gets skipped, and the small shadow you noticed on a lower molar is not in the record when the patient comes back.

How it works

  1. Open an X-ray on the patient's record and click Analyze with Dentospire AI assist, or drop, paste or choose any radiograph on the Radiograph Analysis screen.
  2. The reading opens on a count of areas to review. Each area is boxed on the film, carries a tooth number and is labelled Urgent or Watch, with the full written reading folded underneath.
  3. Untick anything that does not apply, correct the wording or the tooth number, and use + Add for something that was not marked. A finding you remove can be brought back with Undo.
  4. Press Confirm & save and the ticked findings go into the SOAP note and the dental chart together, or send them to only the SOAP note or only the chart.
  5. Download a PDF report of the findings you kept, on your clinic letterhead, or print it for the patient.

What you see on screen

  • A one-line count of the areas to review, how many are urgent, and one row per area underneath.
  • Boxes on the radiograph that match the rows, with FDI or Universal numbering on the Radiograph Analysis screen.
  • A warning when the written reading mentions a tooth that none of the marked findings carries, so you can check the two against each other.
  • A plain “Analysis did not run” message with Retry when a reading fails, instead of an empty list that could pass for a clear film.

What the patient gets

  • A radiographic report as a PDF or a printout on your clinic letterhead, listing only the findings you ticked.

Safety and control

  • It is decision support. Nothing reaches the SOAP note or the tooth chart until you press Confirm & save, SOAP or Chart.
  • Staff can start a reading only if their AI permission is switched on, and the check runs on the server as well as in the screen.
  • A visiting doctor can open films only for their own patients; a film opened from another clinic's link is refused.
  • If the AI answered without reading the image itself, the result is shown as a reduced reading and is not saved as a reading of that film.
  • Films dropped onto the Radiograph Analysis screen are not saved to any patient record.

Good to know

  • Each reading uses one query from the clinic's daily AI allowance, which rises with the plan.
  • The Radiograph Analysis screen takes PNG, JPEG and WebP files. DICOM files are read from the patient's documents, where they are turned into an image first.
  • It points to areas worth a second look. It does not choose a treatment, and a film with nothing marked is not the same as a clear film.
  • A blurred or badly angled film reads less well; retake it rather than rely on the result.

Frequently asked questions

Does Dentospire's AI X-ray reading replace the dentist's own reading of the radiograph?

No. It marks areas on the film for you to look at and labels each one Urgent or Watch, but nothing is written to the notes or chart until you confirm it. You can untick, correct or add findings, so what goes into the record is your reading.

Which X-ray images can Dentospire's AI read?

OPG and RVG radiographs, and intraoral photos on the patient's record. On the Radiograph Analysis screen you can drop, paste or choose a PNG, JPEG or WebP file. A DICOM file uploaded to a patient's documents is converted to an image before it is read.

Can a receptionist run AI X-ray analysis in Dentospire?

Only if you allow it. AI features sit behind the AI permission in staff settings, and the Receptionist preset leaves it off. Someone without the permission cannot start a reading from the screen or by calling the server directly.

Can I give the patient a written report of their X-ray findings?

Yes. Download a PDF of the findings you kept, on your clinic letterhead, or print it. The report lists only the ticked findings, so it matches what you explained in the chair rather than everything the AI marked.

What happens when the AI cannot read an X-ray?

You see “Analysis did not run” with a Retry button, not an empty findings list. If the film was read but its marked findings did not come back, the screen says nothing is marked and asks you to read the radiograph yourself, so a failed read never looks like a clear film.
